Special Interest Group Navigation Charges
Each airline, without any distinction between domestic, regional, or international carriers, is facing the economic factor of Navigation Charges. These charges are normally levied for services rendered by the local Air Traffic Control (ATC) department of each country or navigation region.
Navigation charges typically constitute the second largest operational expense after fuel for the airline, and in sheer volume of invoices they could outperform the number of fuel invoices by a ratio of 5 to 1, which is dependant on the destination and route flown.
The formulas which are used to calculate these charges range from straight forward to extremely complex, and from using the actual weight of the aircraft to the aircraft wing span.
FuelPlus Software GmbH has created a special interest group (SIG) which is working on the adaptation of FuelPlus EFM for Navigation Charges. The SIG’s objective is to utilize the existing FuelPlus modules originally developed for fuel and to customize them for supporting the requirements of Navigation Charges. In a first phase the group will look into Contract Management, Operations, and Accounting including invoice checking. The second phase will then focus on Planning and Budgeting.
If you wish to join this SIG, please contact Kobus Bezuidenhout for more details.
